THE NOVEL

Lord Vitrium, an established leather man in Chicago, has been tasked by his sisters with clearing out the house of their late father—a hoarder who amassed vast collections of objects, documents, and secrets Vitrium must uncover. As the hoard overwhelms him, his kink and life partner Rosario takes him on a journey through death, sex, and gender, guided by the Aztec god Xochipilli, the Lord of the Flowers.

THE NOVEL AS EMBODIMENT

Our Lord of the Flowers is Cesar Torres's vision of the evolution of the novel form. This novel is a poem that manifests as pages of poetry, philosophical reflections, and a page-turning tale of how to deal with loss. It boldly celebrates gender expansion, grief, and queer love. Using their own body and photography as a canvas, Torres asserts that Xochipilli, the Aztec god of flowers, music, and queerness, is present inside and outside the book. It is part of the Aztecverse, the shared mythology where ancient Mesoamerican gods bleed into our reality.
