The earth moves and the cosmos shakes because of Coatlicue, the ancient goddess of Mexica myth. You can now move with her with the Coatlicue Structured/Oversized Distressed T-Shirt by Cesar Torres.
Coatlicue, whose effigy sits today in carved stone in Mexico City, is a giant of the cosmos whose name means skirt of snakes. Indeed, she wears a skirt of snakes, a necklace made of human hearts, and two serpents sprout from her head. This motherly icon represents the infinite womb of the universe, and this tee captures her essence through shape and color. The full story lives on the Coatlicue page.
Cesar's Coil book series also features Coatlicue and her daughter Blue Hummingbird. This tee is a great way to connect your passion for reading and myth to the dark fantasy series.
The shirt
Printed on a heavy blank cut boxy and oversized, dyed after it is built so the color lifts at the edges and pools in the creases. No two fade quite the same way.
- 7.1 oz/yd² (240 g/m²) 100% carded cotton—the heaviest of the three formats
- Garment-dyed and pre-shrunk—the faded finish is built into the blank, not printed on
- Boxy oversized cut with dropped shoulders—the shoulder seam sits down the arm by design
- Wide neck ribbing
- Tear-away label
- Sizes S–3XL
Size guide
Measurements are taken from the garment laid flat, in inches. Width is measured from the seam under one sleeve across to the seam under the other, so double it to compare against your own chest. Length runs from the highest point of the shoulder, beside the collar, down to the bottom hem. This shirt is cut oversized on purpose—take your usual size for the intended silhouette, or size down for something closer to a standard fit. Measurements can vary by up to 2″.
- S—width 20⅛″, length 27¾″, sleeve 9″
- M—width 21⅝″, length 29⅛″, sleeve 9½″
- L—width 23¼″, length 30½″, sleeve 9½″
- XL—width 24¾″, length 31⅞″, sleeve 10¼″
- 2XL—width 26⅜″, length 33¼″, sleeve 10⅝″
- 3XL—width 28″, length 34″, sleeve 11″
Creator's note: I am wearing a size L in these photos. I am 5'9" and 212 lbs.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the artwork come from?
From the books. Every design here belongs to a deity in the Aztecverse pantheon, and every deity anchors a story—so the shirt is a way into the mythology rather than a logo.
How do I pick a size?
Measure a shirt you already wear and like, laid flat, across the chest one inch below the armholes. Match that against the size guide. That is more reliable than going by the size on your usual label.
Will the print crack or fade?
Wash cold and inside out, and skip high heat in the dryer. Treated that way the print holds its color and stays flexible with the fabric.
How is this made?
Printed for you after you order, one at a time. That adds a few days to delivery and means nothing is made that nobody wanted.
Do you offer returns or exchanges?
Customers in the United States get free returns and exchanges. Items must be unwashed, unworn, and in their original packaging. All sales outside the United States are final. Questions? Reach us through the contact page.
